Attendee of the National Conference for Behavioral Health /NATCON23 and Convene sponsored by the Farris Foundation
It was an honor to receive the Farris Foundation Behavioral Initiative Planning Participation Grant in May of 2023 this past year. This extremely generous financial support allowed me to have an opportunity to learn, feel inspired, and expand ideas to bring back to Maine for my clients, families, and also the KidsPeace associates.
While attending the conference I was able to hear various perspectives on the delivery of services across the world. Hearing how other programs implemented peer run support or outpatient therapy services, was incredibly valuable.
As professionals in our fields, it is a rarity that you are able to get away without feeling guilty. I often feel this. But I will admit, taking the time to do something for myself like attending this conference reminded me also of the need for selfcare. This conference had several vendors really not there to sell a product, but empathic of the attendees’ dedication to their respective fields with treats, massages, etc. I recognized this and believe that was a powerful message to everyone there. Find time for yourself.
Wrapping up the conference with the reception at the LA Hotel with the grant recipients and many wonderful members of the Farris Foundation Board, was powerful. I was able to meet a number of new individuals and reconnect with very special people there. I enjoy hearing what is going on around us and find what I may think maybe isolated to Maine, is not.”
