Geographic Focus of Interest to the Foundation

The Foundation’s Trustees originally emphasized supporting issue-focused projects centered on communities of importance to Mr. and Mrs. Farris, including Palm Beach County, Florida; Buffalo, New York; and northern New Jersey.  Over the years, they became increasingly interested in supporting geographically-focused projects in communities of particular interest to them including the communities in which they live.  As a result, the Foundation now supports projects in the communities of Palm Beach County, Florida; Erie County, New York; and northern New Jersey, in legacy to Mr. and Mrs. Farris as well as projects in the Trustees’ “home” communities of Broward County, Florida; Palm Beach County, Florida; Northern counties, Maine; Santa Fe County, New Mexico; and Watauga County, North Carolina.

Our Grantmaking

We fund programs that stimulate innovation, build culture of respect, collaboration and learning; and can demonstrate sustainable impacts.  We are particularly interested in programs that help underserved communities, address racial and economic inequities, and promote leadership development.  We promote the use of technologies by non-profits to improve their efficiency and effectiveness, and to better reach and serve their target populations.

Collective Grant Initiative

The Collective Grant Initiative supports bold leadership in Community Mental Health & Wellness.  We seeks to invest in organizations that focus on mental health and wellness and are committed to creating equitable and accessible community systems of care. We will support innovations that increase access to care, integrate mental health and wellness promotion with primary care and other human services, and support professional development. The capacity building grant program will support practical, "building block" projects that help behavioral healthcare organizations.
